Connells Playing Legendary Cat's Cradle June 19, 2009
Before that show, The band is doing an acoustic performance / live remote from The Hibernian in
Raleigh on WBBB (96 Rock) on Friday afternoon.  The broadcast segment will happen around 5:30pm.
They are doing 2-3 songs and an interview.

Plus Tim "the soundman" Harper is recording the show at the Cradle in hopes of completing a live
release for late 2009 or early 2010.

Update
The Connells have two upcoming concerts in the Raleigh area. The 7/26/08 concert will be as a part of
the Raleigh Downtown Live at Moore Square. More information is available at the series'  website
http:
//budlightdowntownlive.com. This is a free outdoor concert, rain or shine, in Moore Square in Downtown
Raleigh. When The Connells last played there in 2006, it was a great show with many family and
friends in attendance. They will be on stage around 8pm.

On Saturday, September 20, The Connells will be at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary, as part of a
benefit. This concert will also feature Don Dixon and his original band, Arrogance. Don Dixon and Mitch
Easter co-produced REM, along with many other Southern bands. Don's current band is The Jump
Rabbits. Mitch Easter is in the Fiendish Minstrels, and was formerly in Let's Active and Shalini, and is
known as the producer behind Drive-In Studios. Go to

Just found an article from
The Independent:
by Chris Toenes
When The Connells first came rattling out of Raleigh, the terrain of Southern pop still had the deep
indentations of Byrds-styled Rickenbackers (they were certainly a touchstone for these Boylan
Heights boys), and R.E.M. was still a regional success story. Reckoning had just come out, after all. But-
more than two decades, many tours, and handfuls of harangues with record labels later-the
group still sticks its head out for a few shows a year. Talk of their first proper compilation and several
reissues has surfaced, and perspective seems to be sneaking up on the Raleigh pop stars, kind of
like the creeping, snagging melody of their unforgettable "Darker Days." Remember, it's holiday time,
when ex-pals and old friends come back to town and head out looking for familiar faces. Well, you
found some, and they'll be playing your favorite song. See The Connells at The Pour House on Friday,
Dec. 22, with openers The Saving Graces at 9pm. Tickets are $14.

Updated 12-20-06
Mike Connell played the singer songwriter showcase at The Pour House on 12-22.  Mike did bring help.
Although the format  was supposed to be the songwriters themselves playing their songs and talking
about the craft of songwriting.  Mike did not do much talking and  had The Connells other guitar player,
Mike Ayers with him for a couple of songs.  Mike made a joke about needing the help. He played some
new songs, "Helium" and "Stars" along with some older favorites such as "Running Mary" and "Rusted
Fields." Doug MacMillian was also in the audience and even made a few requests which were not
played.

There remain some legal issues to resolve before the band can release the compilation and re-
release the older records.  These legal issues have also stopped the relase of any new
merchandise whatsoever, such as t-shirts. Gottlieb and TVT' Record's default has put any new work on
hold, especially the long-awaited release of The Connell's back catalog.  Rycodisk or Rhino Records
are still negotiating for the release rights.

According to our field reporters, the guys played a large crowd in Baltimore at Max's Slurpfest!  The guys
filled the square.  During classics like "Get a Gun" and "Fun and Games" the entire crowd sang along.
Although there were occasional technical difficulties they guys played a high energy nearly two hour
set.  The band has been practicing new and old material with new drummer Chris Stevenson.  Mid-way
through the concert, they played the new "Stars."  Doug was his old self with his self-styled Karate Kid-
Geisha Boy moves.  During the show some concert-goers had left a pizza on the edge of the stage and
Doug commented that "Mr. Spiccoli had a pizza delivered to the show!" which most of the audience
immediately recognized as a joke off of the film,
Fast Times at Ridegmont High.  Even though Mike
suffered from a cold and lost his voice later, he still sang a great version of "Burden."  Mike and Doug
performed "Dull, Brown and Grey" as a duo as they have done many times before.  The band came
back and rocked hard at the end, playing the classic Stone Cold Yesterday to close the show

Set list (in no particular order):
Something to Say
Still Life
Burden
I Suppose (a rare song these days from the band)
Get a Gun
Fun and Games
Dull, Brown, and Grey
Stars
'74-'75
Adjective Song
Maybe
Slackjawed
Scotty's Lament
Choose a Side
Running Mary
Carry My Picture

News and Notes
"The High Impedence label seems intent on breaking, if not new ground, at least a few rules-as
one might infer from the subtle pun in its moniker.  First of all, by releasing the Bo (Motorcaster)
Taylor-helmed project Bandway and elevating AC/DC worship to an art form, the label clearly aims
to thwart expectations of what a righteous indie is supposed to be about.  And secondly, since High
Impedence's Clif Mann has such a storied rawk pedigree (Bad Checks, Pipe)-and given that his
new project The Clifmen is a pretty much full-on affair touching on everything from Who-styled
classic rock to Dead Boys-influenced classic punk-I'd reckon the label has no truce with
garden-variety, shitty-sounding indie whining either.  Mann's cohorts in crime here include Taylor
(with whom he shares guitar and bass duties), Connells vocalist Doug MacMillan (moonlighting
and clearly loving it) and Jack-'O-Nuts' Brooks Carter (playing the Keith Moon role).  Some of this is
so goofy and over the top, like the sonic reduction revver "I'm In Black" and the thrashy, neo-surf
number "Matchbox City," you can't help but think that the project's a beer-fueled, one-take afternoon
lark.  It probably was.  But on the evidence of other tunes-the epic, brooding "Call," the bump 'n'
grind blooze of "Something Better To Do," the uplifting, almost anthemic "Dreams" -I'd say, here's to
beer-fueled, one-take afternoon larks." -- Review by Fred Mills,
